Behind the Scenes

The story that started it all...

Hi! I'm Jennifer.

I've spent nearly two decades in classrooms doing the work most people never see — finding the children who are slipping through the cracks and refusing to let them stay there.

But the moment that changed everything wasn't in a classroom.

It was in my living room. In March. My daughter's kindergarten year.

She looked at me while we were playing a game on XBox together, and she told me she couldn't read what to do next.

Not struggling to read. Not falling behind. She said she cannot read.

And I had received nothing but glowing reports all year.

Here's what made that moment hit so hard: her kindergarten teacher was a reading specialist. My daughter already knew her letters and their sounds coming out of PreK. Every progress report said she was doing great. Every piece of work she brought home — she could do it.

And yet. She couldn't read. And she had no confidence left.

I'm a teacher with nearly 20 years of experience. A Master's degree. Multiple certifications. A Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner. If the gap could hide from me — it can hide from any parent.

So I stopped everything and started building.

I built what she needed — multisensory, structured, phonics-based materials that gave her real instruction, not memorization. Not lists of sight words to cram in four days. Not "she'll catch up, give it time." Real, systematic, science-of-reading aligned instruction that met her exactly where she was.

It worked.

And then I brought those same materials into my resource room. To the kids on IEPs. To the students at risk who didn't have a diagnosis yet but were clearly struggling. To the children who were working twice as hard as everyone else and still falling further behind.

It worked for all of them.

That's when I understood something I now know to be true in my bones:
Your child isn't behind because they can't learn. They're behind because nobody found the gap yet.

Finding that gap — and fixing it — and rebuilding the confidence that got lost while nobody was looking — that's what Blooming Brilliance in Primary exists to do.

My Background

I've been in education since 2006 — two decades working in Title I general education and special education, grades 1 through 6, in every subject. I started as a general education teacher, drawn to the students who needed more than a standard lesson could give them. I eventually made the full move into special education because I kept gravitating toward the kids who were floundering — on an IEP or not — and I wanted to do more for them.

Today I specialize as a Special Education Resource Teacher for Grades 1–5 in English Language Arts and Math. I'm also a building substitute principal for my district, a district-level professional development presenter, a Lead ELA Literacy Teacher and Mentor, and a Teacher of the Year recipient.

My instruction is rooted in the Science of Reading — structured, explicit, multisensory, and always built around the specific child in front of me.
Not a program. Not a script. The actual child.

My Teaching Philosophy

I believe every child can make progress when instruction actually fits how they learn.

Not every child learns the same way. Not every gap looks the same. Not every child who struggles with reading has the same missing piece.

My job — whether I'm in a tutoring session, a classroom, a PD workshop, or building a resource — is to find the exact skill that's missing and address that specifically.

I'm passionate about hands-on, multisensory learning. I believe movement, touch, sound, and play aren't distractions from learning — they ARE learning, especially for the children who've been failed by pencil-and-paper approaches. I bring gamification, technology, and real tactile experience into every session because that's what actually sticks.

I also believe in rebuilding confidence alongside skills. Because a child who has decided they're "just bad at reading" is carrying something heavier than a phonics gap. The belief that they can't do it is sometimes harder to undo than the gap itself. That's why every session, every resource, and every interaction I have with a child is designed to create real, genuine success — not the appearance of progress, but the actual thing.

For Parents

If you've been told your child is doing fine — but your gut says something is off — trust yourself.

You know your child. The progress report doesn't.

The gap between "doing well at school" and "struggling at home" is real, and it's exactly where children fall through. I've sat in the parent chair. I know what it feels like to trust the system and have it not be enough. I know what it feels like to watch your child lose confidence one school year at a time while everyone tells you to wait and see.

You don't have to wait and see.

I offer 1:1 tutoring, small group sessions, parent consultations, and a free literacy quiz that gives you a personalized action plan for your child within 48 hours. No generic checklist. No automated response. I personally review every single submission.

Start with the free quiz — it takes 5 minutes and tells you exactly where to begin.

For Teachers & Schools

I've been in your classroom. I know what it looks like when a child is trying their hardest and still not getting it. I know the frustration of having a full class and one child who needs something you don't have time to give in that moment.

I create resources specifically for educators working with diverse learners — phonics mats, errorless learning materials, multisensory activities, differentiated instruction tools, and structured literacy resources built for both general education and special education settings. Everything I make is something I've used with real students in real classrooms.

I also offer teacher coaching, lesson planning support, and professional development workshops for schools and teams — practical, immediately applicable strategies from someone who is still in the building every single day.

What others are saying

"Truly gifted at her craft"

💬I couldn't believe it. The strides my son made working with this amazing woman is unreal. He has come so far and has so much more confidence now than before. Jennifer Sullivan is truly gifted at her craft!

- Parent of a 4th Grader

"Because of her, he finally got the help he deserved - and I felt like I wasn't alone."

Since my son was in 1st grade at just 6 years old, we knew we needed more support but it felt like the school system wasn't quick to give him what he needed. I felt like I was constantly having to fight for him, and I didn't know how to do it on my own. Jenn Sullivan was the support and guidance that we so desperately needed. She helped us to navigate the process, understand our rights, and advocate effectively for Lucas. Because of her, he finally got the help he deserved - and I felt like I wasn't alone. He has grown so much in confidence with her guidance and support, and we are so grateful that our son has now found a love for learning again.

- Parent of a 1st Grader

"Made all the difference"

💬 “Jennifer helped my child gain so much confidence and improved his reading skills tremendously. The personalized approach made all the difference!”

- Parent of a 2nd Grader

"Her impeccable ability to teach in a way that children understand, truly makes her one of a kind."

Mrs. Sullivan taught my son in third grade, and to say that I was impressed by her skills as a teacher and knowledge of special Ed, is truly an understatement. Not only did I love her and her teaching style, but my son did as well. He cried when he had to leave her class, and still talks about her and misses her dearly. The compassion she shows in combination with her impeccable ability to teach in a way that children understand, truly makes her one of a kind. I wish more teachers cared as much about their students success and their happiness as Mrs. Sullivan!

- Parent of a 3rd Grader

"You're amazing how you work with kids."

You're amazing how you work with kids. Very blessed we had you as P's teacher when she was in 3rd grade and she struggled with sensory. You'd be so proud of how far she has come, she now is going to start 7th grade in the Fall in her middle school."
- Parent of a 7th Grader

My Mission

Filling learning gaps and rebuilding the confidence that went with them.

That's not a tagline. It's what I do every single day — in my classroom, in tutoring sessions, in the materials I build, and in the conversations I have with parents who finally feel like someone understands what they've been watching their child go through.

The progress my students make isn't luck.

It's the right instruction, at the right time, for the specific child in front of me.

I'm so glad you're here. Let's get to work.🌸
